Glass restoration questions, answered.
What can be restored, how long it takes, what it costs and how to keep glass clear afterward.
Restoration basics
What kinds of glass damage can be restored?
Surface damage: scratches, hard water spots and etching, acid-etched graffiti, welding spatter, and stains from stucco, paint, concrete and brick wash. Cracks, chips and failed insulated units need replacement.
How long does restoration take?
Most homes are done on site in about two days. A single shower enclosure can take a few hours.
How much does it cost?
It depends on how much glass is affected and how deep the damage goes. Send photos and we'll reply with a price range, usually within the hour during business hours.
Do you restore tempered glass?
Yes, often. We inspect it and do a test spot first, as with any glass.
Will the glass look distorted afterward?
Not when it's done properly. We polish gradually over a wider area so the surface stays flat, and you approve a test spot first.
Hard water and stains
Why do my windows keep getting spots?
Usually sprinklers. Kansas City-area water is hard, and when spray dries on glass it leaves minerals behind. Redirecting sprinkler heads stops new spots.
Will a water softener stop spots?
It helps indoor glass like showers. Sprinklers usually run on unsoftened water, so windows near them still spot.
Why didn't vinegar or CLR work?
They dissolve fresh deposits. Once minerals have bonded to or etched the glass, it needs restoration.
